The official Ballon d'Or website briefly published an article declaring Harry Kane the 2026 winner on Monday afternoon, more than four hours before the London Palladium ceremony. Similar articles then appeared naming Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, plus women's favourites Alexia Putellas and Ewa Pajor. The pieces were later removed, leaving fans unsure who has really won football's top individual prize this year.
