Water chemistry in tiny spaces not what we thought
Scientists have found that when water is squeezed into nanoscale gaps, its chemical reactivity is mostly due to extreme pressure, not just being confined. This explains why previous research has often come up with contradictory results on water's behaviour in these tiny spaces. The type of material used to confine the water can also play a role, making water splitting easier.
