UK Watchdog Fines Reddit £14m for Child Safety
The UK data watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office, fined Reddit over £14 million on Tuesday, 24 February 2026. The fine was for failing to apply strong age verification, unlawfully using children's data, and putting young people in danger. Investigators found the company lacked a legal reason for collecting information from children under 13. According to John Edwards, the UK's Information Commissioner, Reddit neglected to perform an analysis of privacy risks ahead of January 2025.
