Airbus at centre of £2.4bn battle for UK’s Skynet satellites

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham urged defence secretary Wes Streeting to choose Airbus, saying about 600 jobs in Stevenage and Portsmouth could be at risk if Lockheed Martin wins. Lockheed says its plan would create about 500 direct jobs in north-east England and another 1,500 across the supply chain. The Ministry of Defence could decide on the Skynet 6 WSS contract as soon as 1 August, according to Defence Eye.
