MPs Challenge Government Claims That Nature Blocks Housing Development
A parliamentary committee has challenged government claims regarding housing development. The Environmental Audit Committee stated that environmental protection is essential for communities, not a hindrance to building new homes. The MPs' report also highlighted Local Government Association data from 2021, which showed that over a million homes with planning permission had not been built in the preceding decade. The committee pinpointed a lack of skilled construction workers and planning expertise as the main impediment to building 1.5 million homes.
