UK energy bills set to rise 10% in July due to Middle East war
Household energy bills are forecast to climb around 10% from July after a sharp rise in wholesale gas prices linked to the Middle East conflict. Analysts Cornwall Insight said Ofgem's July-to-September price cap is now projected to reach approximately £1,801 per year for a typical dual-fuel household, an increase of £160 on the April cap. Iran's warning that ships should avoid the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of global oil and gas passes, is adding further upward pressure on global energy markets.
