Berkshire Hathaway cash pile hits record $397bn
Greg Abel's first quarter as Berkshire Hathaway chief executive saw the conglomerate's cash mountain swell to a record $397 billion. The company sold a net $8.1 billion of stocks in the period, marking its 14th consecutive quarter as a net seller while resuming share buybacks for the first time in months. Operating earnings rose 18% to $11.35 billion, though attendance at Abel's first annual meeting fell sharply without Warren Buffett.
