Venice Protests US Ambassador's Superyacht Visit
Venetian activists plan to disrupt the US ambassador's superyacht visit, calling it an arrogant display of wealth. Tilman Fertitta, who serves as the American envoy to Italy, is expected to arrive in the country on July 17. He will be on his 117-meter superyacht, named Boardwalk, as part of a celebratory tour marking the independence of the United States. Demonstrators, embracing the chant "Venice is not for exploitation," intend to repeat the disruption they caused at Jeff Bezos's marriage ceremony in the previous year.
