200 Ships Stranded Near Strait of Hormuz as Iran Shuts World's Key Oil Route
Over 200 oil and gas tankers have dropped anchor around the Strait of Hormuz after Iran's Revolutionary Guard broadcast "no ship is allowed to pass" on maritime radio. Three tankers were attacked Sunday near Oman's coast. Lloyd's List data shows 170 containerships carrying 450,000 units are trapped inside the Gulf with no exit route. Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar suspended port operations. Dubai's Jebel Ali was hit by falling debris. War risk insurance rates are expected to rise up to 50 percent when underwriters review cover Monday.
