Google applies to release 32 million mosquitoes.

Millions of specially-bred mosquitoes could soon be released in parts of the US to help fight serious diseases like West Nile virus. Google's Debug initiative has applied for authorization to deploy 32 million items in Florida and California throughout a two-year timeframe. Wolbachia-carrying male mosquitoes will cause female eggs to fail to hatch, consequently lowering population sizes.
