Britain approves first new large hydropower projects in over 40 years
Three major pumped storage hydropower projects in Scotland have received provisional approval from Britain’s energy regulator, becoming the first such schemes in over 40 years. Acting as giant batteries, they will store wind and solar power for release during peak demand. Expected to be completed by the early 2030s, the projects aim to boost energy security and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.
