Bird flu reaches Australia, now on every continent
This highly contagious H5N1 strain has now been found on every continent, with Australia confirming its first mainland case. Agriculture Minister Julie Collins said the disease was detected in a brown skua, a migratory seabird, in remote Western Australia on Saturday. While human cases are uncommon, the virus previously killed over 75% of baby seals on remote Australian islands.
