May and June heatwaves killed 1,002 in London and South East

About 2,700 people died from heat-related causes across England and Wales during the May and June heatwaves. Researchers estimate that 1,002 of these deaths occurred in London and the South East alone. Climate change is thought to be responsible for about 42% of the total heat-related deaths.
