Government Spent Over £3.35 Billion on Artificial Intelligence Since 2018

The UK government has spent more than £3.35 billion on artificial intelligence projects since 2018, according to consultancy Tussell’s data. The figure includes contracts for AI technology, infrastructure, and related services across multiple departments. The report follows Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s remarks that AI could improve public services, create jobs, and benefit future generations. The biggest by far is a 2021 contract by the Met Office with Microsoft to build weather and climate forecasting supercomputer.
