Cornwall plant uses earth heat to power 10,000 homes
The United Downs station near Truro has officially started generating electricity using heat found deep underground. Geothermal Engineering Ltd drilled three miles below the surface to reach 200C temperatures, producing power for 10,000 households. This £50m initiative offers a consistent energy supply unlike wind or solar and will also extract lithium. Although experts praised the achievement, high costs may limit future replication.
