Over 55,000 UK Businesses Enter Critical Financial Distress in Third Quarter
More than 55,000 UK companies faced critical financial distress in the third quarter of 2025, a 78 percent increase from the previous year, according to Begbies Traynor’s Red Flag Alert report. Consumer-facing sectors experienced the steepest declines, with leisure and cultural activities rising 97 percent, hotels and accommodation 93 percent, and retailers 86 percent. Julie Palmer from Begbies Traynor stated that companies are scaling back to survive rather than investing for growth, as inflation, high wages, and financing costs continue mounting. Source: City AM
