Nikkei hits record 56,363 as PM Takaichi wins 316 seats
Japanese stocks skyrocketed to record highs Monday after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party secured a historic 316 seats in the lower house. The Nikkei 225 surged 3.9 percent to close at 56,363.94, briefly crossing the 57,000 mark. Takaichi, Japan’s first female premier, promised "responsible yet aggressive" fiscal policies following the landslide victory, which marks the first single-party two-thirds majority since 1947.
