Scotland Becomes First UK Nation to Legally Require Swift Nest Boxes on New Builds

Scotland has passed legislation making it the first nation in the UK to legally require nesting provisions for a declining species in all new building developments. The Nature Restoration Bill mandates swift nest bricks or boxes on new constructions and writes binding biodiversity targets into law for the first time. Scotland has committed to becoming nature positive by 2030 and substantially restoring natural habitats by 2045, with officials able to be held legally accountable for meeting each target.
