NHS data reveals 31.1 per 1,000 births end in severe injury
More women are experiencing severe injuries during childbirth, raising fresh concerns about maternity care across England. NHS figures released before publication of Lady Amos's government-commissioned report showed higher rates of severe tears and postpartum haemorrhage, with ministers preparing an action plan later this year. Records began in 2020, and severe tears reached 31.1 cases per 1,000 births.
