Pound reaches one-month high against the dollar as rate rise bets grow

Sterling climbed to about $1.345, its strongest level in nearly a month, and also reached a one-year high against the euro. Traders backed the pound after Bank of England chief economist Huw Pill signalled interest rates could still rise, while stronger UK growth data and easing political uncertainty also helped. Oil prices stayed around $76 a barrel after rising about 5% this week.
