OpenAI launches GPT-5.5 with agentic upgrades

OpenAI just took another swing at the AI race with GPT-5.5, released today to paying ChatGPT and Codex users. The new model is better at coding, using computers, and handling multi-step tasks without step-by-step prompting, OpenAI said at a press briefing. The release comes just seven weeks after GPT-5.4 and follows rival Anthropic's Mythos launch, with OpenAI president Greg Brockman calling it "a new class of intelligence for real work."
