Martin Lewis tells Reeves to reverse student loan freeze
Consumer champion Martin Lewis appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Monday to demand Chancellor Rachel Reeves reverse a decision to freeze the Plan 2 student loan repayment threshold at £29,385 for three years, rather than letting it rise with inflation. Lewis called the student loans system a 'nightmare' and a 'mess', saying the freeze was 'a breach of contract' that would hit lower and middle earning graduates hardest. The freeze was announced in the November 2025 budget. The National Union of Students has also called on the Chancellor to reverse the decision.
