Irish data centres now use nearly a quarter of country's electricity

Data centres in Ireland used 23% of the country's metered electricity in 2025, a 10% increase from the previous year. Data centre electricity usage rose despite a ban on most new data centre grid connections around Dublin for nearly all of 2025. Data centres now consume more electricity than all urban households combined, which account for 18% of usage.
