Why Dover port expects chaos from new EU border tech issues
The Port of Dover is warning of severe congestion this summer because a new EU digital border system, the Entry/Exit System (EES), is not working properly. The EES requires non-EU citizens, including Britons, to register fingerprints and photos, but the French-supplied technology for 84 new kiosks at Dover is not yet functional. Manual processing in a smaller area means potential miles of tailbacks and disruption for both tourists and freight traffic.
