Denmark explores nationwide ban on Islamic call to prayer
Denmark's government is examining whether it can legally ban the public broadcast of the Islamic call to prayer nationwide, immigration minister Morten Bødskov has said. Bødskov told the Ritzau news agency the call should not be heard over Danish rooftops, in comments critics have condemned as discriminatory and supporters defend as protecting secular public space. Only a small number of Danish mosques broadcast the adhan, and any ban could face challenges under constitutional protections for religious worship.
