UK faces heightened threats from Russia, Iran and terrorism, MI5 warns

MI5 Director General Ken McCallum told lawmakers that hostile state activity is rising sharply, pointing to Iran-linked plots, Wagner Group actions, and Chinese espionage. He said investigations into foreign interference are up 35%, with several operations disrupted in recent months. The agency also flagged increased terror plots from extremist groups exploiting instability abroad. McCallum appealed for stronger security laws and closer coordination with European and international partners.
