Met brings facial recognition to central London by Christmas
London's West End will get new static facial recognition cameras by Christmas, a big step for surveillance in the capital. The Metropolitan Police, London's law enforcement agency, will deploy permanent surveillance cameras in the West End and Soho, areas recognized for high crime rates, after a successful pilot scheme. This trial in Croydon led to 173 arrests, but critics worry about innocent people being scanned.
