Taiwan passes its first sweeping crypto law

Taiwan passes its first sweeping crypto law

Taiwan is moving crypto from a legal grey area to full licensing, joining Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Its legislature passed the Virtual Asset Service Act on Tuesday, requiring all crypto firms to be licensed and holding stablecoin issuers to full reserves. Unlicensed operators risk up to seven years in prison, though the law still needs the president's signature to take effect.
