Big tech’s emissions now a third of France's, driven by datacentres
Microsoft, Amazon, and Google’s carbon emissions rose by nearly a fifth last year, hitting 119 million tonnes, mainly due to building more datacentres. The boom in cloud services, linked to AI and chatbots, has impacted their climate goals, with companies outsourcing their digital carbon footprint. Experts are also concerned about a possible shortage of carbon credits to offset these increasing emissions.
