Aliens might only last 5000 years

A compelling new perspective could shed light on the Fermi paradox, the enigma of absent alien civilizations. A recent paper calculates that technological civilisations typically survive for just 5000 years. Physicist Enrico Fermi informally inquired in 1950, "But where is everybody?", and this famous paradox now bears his name.
