UUP boss denies blocking Doug Beattie candidacy

Doug Beattie, who previously led the party, will not receive an automatic nomination for the Northern Ireland Assembly election in Upper Bann, scheduled for the coming year. Jon Burrows, the current leader of the UUP, asserts that he did not get involved in the choice to field two contenders rather than just a single one. Beattie previously led the party from 2021 to 2024.
