Sussex University Wins High Court Challenge Over £585,000 Fine
England's Office for Students has had its conduct criticised after losing a High Court challenge brought by the University of Sussex. The OfS had imposed a record £585,000 fine over the university's trans and non-binary equality policy, which it ruled had a chilling effect on free speech. Mrs Justice Lieven found the OfS had predetermined its findings and misunderstood the law on freedom of speech.
