Scientists detect record-breaking 'space laser' beaming from 8 billion light-years away
A powerful radio signal, described as a 'mega-laser', has been detected over 8 billion light-years away, remaining unusually bright despite the extreme distance. Researchers from the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory used the MeerKAT radio telescope to identify this amplified hydroxyl emission. The signal's luminosity is enhanced by a foreground galaxy acting as a natural magnifying glass, boosting its visible power.
