Departments asked to cut budgets for defence
The government wants to boost defence spending, but other departments will have to find the money from their own budgets. This occurred after John Healey, who was formerly the defence secretary, resigned in protest of a modest financial proposal designated for the military's capital expenditure strategy. Keir Starmer had only offered an extra £2bn for defence by 2030, which Healey said wasn't enough.
