Met wins court battle over facial recognition
Londoners have lost a landmark privacy challenge to police live facial recognition. The High Court on Tuesday ruled the Met's policy complies with human rights law, dismissing a claim brought by youth worker Shaun Thompson, who was wrongly flagged by the tech in 2024, and Big Brother Watch. The Met says the technology has led to 2,100 arrests since 2024 with only 12 false alerts last year from three million face scans.
