Supermarkets reject food price caps, warn of 'backfire'
Households might not see price limits on essential items like milk, bread, and eggs, despite government pressure. Supermarket bosses have strongly rejected suggestions from the Treasury for voluntary food price caps, calling the idea "desperate" and "mad". Lord Stuart Rose, a former Asda boss, also criticised the reported plans as "idiotic" and "unworkable," saying they would "backfire".
