Lammy faces calls to fix prison release errors

Lammy faces calls to fix prison release errors

From March 2024 to March 2025, 262 inmates were wrongly released in England and Wales, more than double the previous year’s figure. Two men, one convicted of sex offences and another for fraud, were mistakenly freed from Wandsworth Prison. Procedures to strengthen release checks, previously outlined by David Lammy, had not been enacted when these incidents took place. Lammy is now under increased scrutiny to address ongoing failures in the prison release system.
