Halifax bank brand to disappear after 173 years

The Halifax banking brand, founded in West Yorkshire in 1853, will be scrapped and rebranded to Lloyds, its owner since 2009. Residents of Halifax town say losing the name is a "great mistake" and a "general loss of identity" for the area. Around 3,000 people work at the bank's headquarters, and the changes are expected in early 2027.
