UK Net Migration Falls to Four-Year Low as Policy Changes Drive Sharp Decline
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show net migration to the UK totalled 204,000 in the year to June 2025. This represents a 69% drop from 649,000 the year before. Levels are now the lowest since 2021. According to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, this decline puts migration at a five-year low. Stricter work and study visa rules, implemented by the Conservatives in early 2024, drove the reduction. One of the key policy changes was raising the family partner visa income requirement to £29,000.
