EU Asks Members to Begin Early Gas Storage

Europeans face more difficult competition for winter gas, as natural gas prices have gone up over 30 percent since February 28. Dan Jorgensen, the EU's Energy Commissioner, wrote Saturday, urging member states to begin refilling their gas reserves sooner. They could reduce the gas reserve target to 80 percent full, a ten-point drop from the previous 90 percent requirement.
