Bristol scientist researches mum's incurable blood cancer
A University of Bristol scientist has secured funding to research the incurable blood cancer her own mother was diagnosed with. Dr Lucy Goudswaard switched from heart disease to studying myeloma, which affects bones, after Joy Goudswaard was diagnosed in 2021. Her work, funded by Blood Cancer UK from August 2026, will explore why a related condition can lead to cancer.
