UK Passport Changes Leave Australians With Dual Citizenship Scrambling Before New Border Rules
New UK border rules taking effect on 25 February 2026 require all dual British/Australian citizens to present a valid British or Irish passport — or a Certificate of Entitlement — to board flights, trains or ferries to the UK, ending the previous practice of entering on an Australian passport and ETA. Many Australians have only recently learnt of the change, triggering a last-minute rush for passports amid travel disruptions, processing delays and calls for a grace period.
