Labour dropped care firm ban over 'unfriendly to business' fears
Older and disabled people using care services could be affected by a policy that was removed before an election campaign. On 18 June 2026, Wes Streeting said a plan to stop some private equity-owned providers operating in social care was taken out of Labour’s manifesto because it was seen as unfriendly to business. His 2022 proposal covered firms failing tests on care quality, workers’ rights and financial strength.
