The gap between Britain's brightest and gloomiest spots is roughly an extra hour of sunshine every day down south. Met Office averages crown Shanklin, Folkestone, Bognor Regis, Hastings and Weymouth, all south-coast spots, led by the Isle of Wight's 1,976 hours a year. Among cities, Glasgow, Inverness, Manchester, Belfast and Newry get the least, with Glasgow on 1,233 hours.
