25% fewer children will wait in jail
Children's lives could see less lasting damage as fewer under-18s are held in jail before trial. Justice Secretary David Lammy plans to cut the number of children awaiting trial in prison by a quarter. This overhaul of youth justice rules, detailed in a white paper published Monday, also considers ending lifelong criminal records for under-18s.
