Meta to begin making its own AI chips from September

Meta's plan is to significantly increase its total computing capacity to 14 gigawatts by next year. The tech firm's custom-designed chip, code-named "Iris", aims to improve the AI behind Facebook and Instagram. Producing its own chips should help Meta lower computing costs and reduce reliance on suppliers like Nvidia and AMD.
