US job creation hits weakest level since Covid pandemic
US employment figures show a marked slowdown. In December 2025, the nation saw an increase of only 50,000 jobs. Just 584,000 positions were created across the whole of 2025, a sharp drop from 2024's 2 million-plus. The jobless rate decreased to 4.4 percent. However, revisions reduced October and November's totals by 76,000. Gains occurred mainly in healthcare and hospitality, while retail and manufacturing saw declines. The Federal Reserve has lowered interest rates three times in response.
