British Gas pays £20 million for forced meter issue

Vulnerable customers will receive compensation and have energy debts cancelled following British Gas's actions. The energy firm agreed to a settlement after Ofgem investigated agents force-fitting prepayment meters in people's homes without permission, a practice British Gas apologised for. British Gas will pay £20 million into a redress fund and write off up to £70 million in customer debt.
