Airlines ask EU to stop border checks
Holiday journeys could face longer waits and disrupted flights during the busy summer period. Airline and airport groups wrote to the European Commission on Wednesday asking for temporary pauses to new biometric border checks when passenger numbers overwhelm border staff. Some passengers have waited up to five hours, while carriers reported aircraft leaving with empty seats because travellers were delayed.
