Mauritius vows to fight for Chagos Islands
The planned handover of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius has been delayed, prompting Mauritius to promise continued efforts for their control. Keir Starmer's government shelved the transfer legislation after the US withheld formal approval for the deal. The plan, agreed with former US president Joe Biden, involved Britain giving up control and paying £35bn to rent the US-UK base for 99 years.
